Spelle, 21st of April 2008 – Krone has developed an innovative starter mechanism that enables Big Pack balers to be started up without causing major stress to the engine. This unique Krone innovation eliminates the usual load peaks on the tractor during baler start-up.

To deal with the problem of load peaks, Krone integrated a hydraulic motor in the pto driveline from the tractor to the baler, which powers an auxiliary drive to a pto speed of approx. 200rpm. This only requires a double-acting spool on the tractor. The big baler is started from the stationary tractor and slowly accelerated to a pto speed of approx. 200rpm. Then the operator engages the tractor pto and increases the remote speed to 1,000rpm. This new technology eliminates the requirement for high starting torques in the mechanical tractor pto driveline in order to start the baler.

The new starter mechanism for big balers, currently a unique Krone feature, is available as an option for the Big Pack 1290 HDP and 12130 models, minimises stress on the tractor gearbox and engine as the baler is being started.
