Case IH Takes Center Stage in World Trade Discussion
Category: News
Racine, Wis. - On May 23, in Washington, DC, promoting world trade week, President Bush welcomed entrepreneurs and business leaders, joking, “Obviously some of the exporters are pretty good salesmen and women – after all, they let you drive a tractor here on the South Lawn. Imagine what the Secret Service was saying." The tractor he was referring to was a red Case IH Quadtrac, stationed prominently on the South Lawn of the White House among a few other products present in support of free trade. Later, during his address promoting the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the President singled out Case IH, stating, “This Case tractor – by the way, manufactured in Fargo, North Dakota – called a Case IH, will be $15,500 cheaper in Colombia. That could be a significant difference when it comes to somebody buying that tractor, and I hope the Case workers hear me loud and clear. The cheaper that is for somebody to buy in Colombia, the more work you're going to have.” Approval of a U.S.-Colombia FTA would eliminate tariffs on CNH product exports to Colombia from the U.S. FTAs are currently pending between Columbia, Panama and South Korea and the United States.
